Almost everyone lives in one specific place. This place, wherever it is, possesses unique gifts, and so do the people who inhabit it. The task of regeneration is to identify and nurture those gifts so that they are exchanged for the benefit of all.

This exchange of inherent gifts unleashes potential to create a world that works for all.

Every place is nested within a larger context, and this means the gifts of place appear at every scale. Every household is nested in a community, which is nested in a watershed, which is nested in a bioregion, which is nested on the planet Earth.

A bioregion marks an important distinction because it is given by nature, not by human artifice. A bioregion is defined as an area bounded by geographical limits and ecological systems rather than artificial borders.

There is a growing movement that recognizes bioregions as the global context for local action. This work is already quietly underway in pockets all around the world.

The Sonora Bioregion is characterized by rich biodiversity, rugged resilience, and numinous beauty, Its gifts are plentiful and so are its challenges. Regenerating Sonora is committed to seeing all life flourishing in this remarkable ecosphere.
